About the Professional Culture Subcommittee

The KSPT (Knowledge and Skills for Professional Teachers) subcommittees were formed out of the WEGE (Working Group for Educator Excellence).  The goal is for education stakeholders in Massachusetts to ”come together to agree upon a common professional knowledge base for teaching or to organize a centralized repository of professional knowledge…and to bind together previously disconnected and often dysfunctional elements of the personnel pipeline with the glue of high-level professional knowledge and skill, and to do so comprehensively and forcefully.”  Each subcommittee will draw from the vast resources available that inform the professional knowledge base of teaching and learning.  It will be organized by essential domains, with Professional Culture being one of them.  Below is the initial description of the Professional Culture domain which will drive the work of that  (our) subcommittee.

Some Possible Knowledge and Skills related to Professional Culture:

Collaborating effectively with colleagues for the good of the school and the good of all the students, by communicating, reflecting on self and own professional practice, reaching out for continuous professional learning and improvement, operating from shared values, and bringing a belief in effort-based ability to personal and to school practice. Awareness of an educator’s responsibility to conduct themselves in a professional manner by maintaining positive relationships based on respect with all students, and an understanding of the importance of a confidence and trust that students, parents, colleagues and the public place in the profession.
