Our district has many partnerships with the community but the one that comes most to mind is the development officer. We had this position for several years, unfortunately it was cut last year, but I think it has achieved some significant things. The woman who had been in this position created an Alumni Fund and did some work locating alumni who still lived in the area. She was able to record some of the history of the district and encourage involvement by alumni. In our district the people who have the most contact with the schools are obviously those families who have children currently attending school. The Alumni Fund encouraged people to stay involved after they graduated or after their kids had left the system. When more people are aware of what is going on in the schools, they are more likely to be supportive (especially at budget time!)
There are so many talents in the community that could be shared with students if we are able to connect the right community members with the right students. I know our school has compiled a volunteer database but I don’t think it is utilized.
