So I went to get some shoelaces today in a standalone shoe repair store this afternoon, and the man behind the counter determines the length of shoelace I’ll need by counting the number of lace holes on my left shoe (as I struggle to keep my balance on my other foot, offering the other to the man’s peering glance). He comments that I need a shoe shine. (I did, in fact, need a shoe shine.) He polishes them for me.
And then Lamech tells me, “a man feels different when he has polished shoes.”
What a better way to start a running commentary– a simple truth, the beginning of warmer days and a spring break week to come. And oh yes, a freshly polished pair of shoes.
