The week gets underway entirely too quickly, which is why, I realize, it’s that much more important to get out of town every once in a while.
Memorial Day conference in the family’s hometown this year, and glad to be able to go. Some favorite moments all about niece and nephew A. and I… getting ice cream at Reading Terminal right by the Marriott, and with A. having already eaten a cone earlier in the day, her going from cone to cone (mine, her younger brothers, and Gong-Gong’s). Impossible to resist sharing ice cream with the girl who stands patiently by your spoon-holding arm and looks at you, leans in to get a bite of cone and ice cream, and lays her little hand on your arm for leverage. And with the nephew I.? All his rolling around and his fingers inexplicably seeking out your eyebrows and plugging your ears… I can tell why sister J. in the mornings might find that a bit too much– and why sending him across the hotel hallway to the room I shared with mom and dad might be so appealing.
Good to get some conference sessions as well and to hear some fresh speaking, and to catch up with family, friends, brothers and sisters from close-by and afar. A particular good afternoon with friends A. and A. (and later joined by the Boston native L.) at a coffee place chatting and doing some work, N. and her cute daughter on Monday morning, and unfortunate missed connection with R., but the niceness of being surprised from behind with a poke or an unexpected hello.
To cap it all off? How much better it is to travel that Northeast corridor with S. and our multiple stops at nearly every rest stop for bathroom breaks (and the occasional hot dog to benefit the local cub scout trip to Alaska) along the way.
Miss the family already…
