Education-focused projects… times 5

It’s satisfying when you can pick up where you’ve left off, and the momentum carries.

Over the past few days, I’ve been working on some education-focused projects for the coming academic year, all of them building off of work from the previous one. They’re all compelling projects that I really think are important, but put together, it’s starting to seem a bit much all of a sudden.

1) Working on putting together the subcommittee on Professional Cultures for the Knowledge and Skills for Professional Teaching Project (through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education). I’ll be co-chairing this committee over the next year.

2) Prepping for an Incubator Project proposal on connecting more BPS schools with community resources with three other folks, for which we’ll be doing a presentation for the mayor and superintendent this coming week.

3) Setting up the structure for continuing the work with the BPS 12th grade Civics curriculum, for which I’ll revise, and then design and facilitate a year-long professional development series for participating teachers who will be teaching that course. All this in continued partnership with Hyde Square Task Force.

4) Meeting City Councillor Connolly today, in partnership with fellow former Teaching Ambassador Fellow S., to propose the creation of a teacher advisory panel for the city’s education committee, with the idea of being a resource as well as being able to bring the city council’s focus squarely to issues of teaching and learning.

5) The unexpected call to participate as a panel reviewer for a Teacher Quality Partnership federal grant, for which I would be reviewing federal grant applications, assessing them, and participating in panel discussions to rate their relative strengths for funding.

Time to look for another hobby, perhaps?  heh..
