Meeting up with Former Colleague and Friend

I first sketched out the title of this post to be “Friend and Colleague in Passing,” but it was a little uncomfortably close in double meaning. A few more words, but I think it’s clearer.

Good to meet up with friend O (or P since he goes by the last name) who I haven’t seen in close to two years, since the time he left BCLA (Boston Community Leadership Academy) for other job opportunities and interests. Good to duck into a nicely air-conditioned (and cave like) JP Licks this afternoon and sip on a tall cup of iced coffee. Great to see him and in particular, to see pictures of his two-year old daughter and him shielding themselves from aggressive geese on the Common. In talking with him about where he’s at and what he’s shooting for with an upcoming graduate school application and potential new job (and talking about where I’m at now with my own career as an educator), it was refreshing to see how different and how settled and how good life can be as we make these small, medium and large sized decisions about what we do, how we spend our time and what we’re about.

All the better, of course, when you have a cup of iced coffee in hand for extra rumination.
