From Beach Plans to, well, some Back-to-School Shopping

This Friday, the plan was all set, as further finalized through some surreptitious writing in the new academic plan book. (That kind of writing, I find, is absolutely the best). We wanted to make sure to get at least one full summer beach day–the destination planned to be Horseneck Beach, at the western end of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.

It just got cloudier and cloudier, though, and after stopping to get a sub and a beach umbrella at a Benny’s along the way, we were getting some earnest spitting rain. We passed a sign saying that the beach was closed for swimming, I guess in anticipation of the tropical storm moving up the coast.

Recourse? Wrentham Outlets and moving in and out of stores in beach-ish clothes. Not too bad of an alternate plan. All the better with a good dinner at my place with S. and the roommates–grilling up brined chicken and some sides of massaged kale, cornbread and the best summer side of all, Kraft mac-and-cheese. After a slice or two of pastry from Mike’s and some ginger and vanilla ice-cream?

Not so bad a day at all.
