So I recently heard someone joking about those holiday letters that sometimes get sent out, A Newsletter from the Jensons! for example, reprising the major events of the year–or,minor events, as was sarcastically pointed out–for the letter-sending family; the haps and mishaps a year brings. Sure, I get the overall cheesyness of it– but to tell you the truth, I love that stuff. Really! Nothing better than everyday reflecting, picking out the memorable events and condensing the stuff of everyday life into something newsworthy. And that’s just the thing. The every day is worth paying attention to. Maybe that’s why this running commentary experiment for me, started what… nearly six months ago?… is still going on. I’ve liked the idea of life observed as something that can be done simply.. and joyfully.
Still, I’m going to resist doing that kind of narrative rethinking here, and just say that it’s been a good year. Really. Much to be thankful for, and a lot to look forward to.
