I like those pictorial essays or tv shows that capture a person’s progress through whatever project he or she might be working on. Cooking shows, home renovation projects… or salon makeovers. All that Bravo, Food Network and HGTV stuff. (Geez, should I admit all that??)
So in that fashion, here goes some documentation of my current closet renovation project. Not a bad task to tackle during a February break week, beautified with a lovely mid-week snowfall.
I’ll spare you (or spare myself!) from sharing the pre-closet usage with clothes and other scattered things lying about. But here goes the pre-disassemblage of the existing organizer units that came with the place. Falling apart drawers and the like–

Pre-Disassembling

Other Pre-Existing Closet Thing
Actually, really satisfying to use the power drill to disassemble the thing piece-by-piece. One of those Ikea-ish ones with the short cam crews, wood dowels and plenty of ad-hoc woodscrews-into-brace pieces to bolt the units to the walls. Not so bad to look out to the snow falling outside as well.

Snowfall during Closet Work
A bit of simple drilling action.

Drill, baby!
Leading to piles of screws to salvage and toss…

Lots of Screws
And a final time check as the particle board pieces stacked up on the floor around me!

Gettin' it done
About 2 and half hours of disassembly- not so bad. Much more of a pain to haul the pieces down the stairs little by little, but after another hour of that, it was all looking pretty clean. Did some spackling later in the evening and will see how far I get with it tomorrow!
