You have to love, and then feel the pain of, and then love again the first bike ride of the spring season.
A good meet up with former Watertown roommates for a late breakfast in Newton Center. Then pumped up the bike tires, wiped down the frame and went on my way this afternoon. Bright early spring sun. A bit windy and cool, but perfectly good enough to strike out. Missed heading out with friend R., but will save that for next time. R. of the in-shape variety from whom I’m hoping to get some inspiration… or at least the steadiness that comes from the frequent exerciser. Good connects, those ones.
Did my usual route out of my neighborhood here in Jamaica Plain, going through the Arnold Arboretum, and then winding my way to the wider roads of the V.F.W parkway through West Roxbury. End destination? My favorite sunny bench overlooking the wetlands around the Charles River; far end of one of the large, expansive fields in Millennium Park. Real hidden gem, that one.
Had the version of the chest-feels-like-it’s-about-to-explode thing on the way out (so that’s what an elevated heart rate feels like), and then the bliss of the even pedaling and quick pace of the return home. Muscle memory is good that way.
