The weather seems to change so quickly here. And it makes the days you get that much better. The hard sounds of hail this morning with a cold front coming through. Making you feel all the luckier to have had the previous day of perfect weather for the Grand Canyon…and ready for a day of travel out west to Oatman, AZ and back north to Las Vegas.
Turns out that we didn’t even need to use the poncho and umbrella we bought at the Dollar store on the way out (though all the road snacks we also got went through plenty of good use). After a quick breakfast at a place called the Crazy Greek (and a non-greek $3.99 special of biscuits and gravy, eggs and sausage), we headed out of Williams in a cold, drizzly rain. An hour later? There we were with an unexpectedly beautiful, albeit cooler, day. Bright sun and full clouds in sky. And a different Arizona desert landscape. Fuller and richer somehow. And that same impossibly full stretch of landscape and sky.
An altogether different stretch of Route 66 towards Oatman, suggested to us as the best ‘ghost town’ to visit. Pretty stunning landscape.
And Oatman? The former gold mining town was now a place of plenty of ass jokes on its repurposed storefronts (since there were, oddly enough, a lot of donkeys wandering about…the offspring of their mine-working parents). Classy Ass Jewelry and Jack-Ass Restaurant and that kind of thing. And oh yes, plenty, plenty of bike riders midway through a two week bike event. Cool.

Done! Just put it in there… wish I could have recorded the sounds of it falling against the window though–
