Planned (and unplanned) Summer Home Projects

I don’t know how others feel about it, but I get this particular impulse during the beginning days of summer, usually a day or two after the final responsibilities of the academic year are over.  It’s the feeling to get a jump on those home projects that have been in various stages of incompletion for all too long.

Maybe it’s the extra time I had to look at those paint samples that have been on the wall for months or seeing that hole in the door one time too many.  Or the gracious willingness of S to get them started, and finished, with me.  In any case, a satisfying first week of painting the living room, knocking out more trim in the seemingly inexhaustible trim surfaces to be done in the kitchen, and patching up that door.  And with the front porch shaping up with a fresh coat of paint and wood stain?  Fresh is good.

Finally getting to paint the living room

And the unplanned home project?  The particularly unrelentless prodding of one visiting mom to replace that kitchen faucet which admittedly, did have a habit of shedding its handle a bit too frequently.  Thank goodness for the handy brother-in-law who made that as painless as possible.
