Once into the summer groove, it always takes a bit of extra oomph to get out the door and step into working with students again. Especially after being a few weeks removed from the end of the school year. And when you have to head out into a humid summer day and navigate the T, joining all the other commuters on their way to what you can only imagine are sad appointments. (People certainly looked sad in that wilted way). It absolutely makes you appreciate the gift of having teacher-summer flexibility.
Meeting up with two recently graduated seniors from my formal school this morning, however, was pretty great. I caught one of their senior capstone presentations a month ago, and offered to meet up with them to refine it and present again to some city council members. Strong progress, that infectious enthusiasm as they talked about their upcoming first year of college and that spark that makes you feel like they can change the world. On the cusp of big and exciting things. Makes you feel fortunate to be a part of it.
